1. What's your background?
I've been working in the creative industries since 2004. First as a commercial and editorial stylist and now as a designer, photographer and creative director. My background in styling allows me to notice all the small details and create compositions that feel authentic and considered. Design helps me to see how the images are translated, and directing allows me to see the whole picture. The combination of all these skills allows me to take a holistic approach to my photography, thinking not only about how to best capture the image, but also to consider how to visually tell the story.
2. What is your photographic style?
I'm not a "technical" photographer, I am visual story teller. This means I don't focus on f-stops or shutter speeds to capture the best image, rather I believe the best images are the ones that focus on the emotion, meaning and narrative. My style of photography is candid, unscripted and natural. It's documentary mixed in with a little creative portraiture, mostly using natural or available light. I love to capture the whole story, including all the little details. I also try not to be too obtrusive or in your face while taking my pictures. If you need direction during the lovey dovey stuff, I have a few tricks up my sleeve, but as for the rest, it's candid, natural, and in the moment.
3. What happens to copyright of the images?
With my wedding package you get a set of high and low-res photos as well as a 20ish page pdf of your wedding day, which you can email to guests. With regards to copyright, there are only a few conditions. These are in regards to commercial use; re-selling; and for use in my portfolio. For personal stuff like facebook IG, if you post my pics up, a simple link/mention of myself is appreciated, but not absolutely necessary. For any commercial use, no altering or adjusting of images is allowed without prior approval, also a credit is a must!
4. Do you travel for photography work?
I love to. I'm based in Siem Reap so If I do need to travel to the destination, then travel and accommodation costs are an extra cost and agreed upon before booking.
5. What equipment do you use?
I have a 2 camera set-up which consists of the Canon 5R and 5D mark iii, with a mixture of prime and zoom lenses. After the wedding I use Adobe Creative Suite and Mac computers, and all editing happens in Adobe Lightroom.
6. Do you back up your work?
All my work is backed up to a dedicated hard drives. With regards to wedding photography, I don't shoot your wedding onto just one memory card. The day is spilt up over multiple cards, without running the risk of losing all your images if heaven forbid, a card fails! Once my day is done, all your photos are backed up onto a hard-drive as well as on my Mac.
7. Do you release your RAW files?
Nope, you don't ask the chef for the raw chicken bones to come out with your cooked chicken so its a bit odd to ask the same thing from a photographer. :-)
8. Do we need to feed you?
As I'm shooting all day, I usually pack some light food while I'm floating everywhere. All I ask is a small meal at dinner time, nothing fancy, just something to keep me going.
9. Do you require a deposit ?
Yes please, a non refundable $500 deposit is required to reserve your wedding date. With the remaining balance to be paid on the wedding date.
10. Can we plan a time to meet and put names to faces?
I recommend it!, contact me and we can catch up over a cup of tea. Or if you're not in the country then I'm happy to skype too. :-)
11. How long will portraits take?
Bridal party photos will take an hour or so. This can be done before or after the ceremony, but keep in mind to get the soft natural light, the best time to shoot in Cambodia is 5.30am-7:30am in the morning and during "golden hour" which is from 4pm till an hour before sun goes down.
As for family portraits, it takes time to gather family members for photos, so pre-assign a family member or friend who knows the people to be in the pictures so they can round them up for the photos...and have a list, as its extremely helpful. Getting people where they need to be for the photos is the most time consuming part.
13. What can I do on my wedding day to help make the photos look as good as possible?
Avoid wearing glossy lipstick and consider foundation or powder that will reduce the chance of having a shiny face. Mineral makeup causes unflattering effects due to elements that reflect light in them, so do keep that in mind. Glittery and shimmering powder is also a bad choice for the entire bridal party, so best to avoid it.
Finally, remember your day goes super quickly so make sure you enjoy it and don't stress about all the small things like the whether or not your centrepieces are perfect. Those things are important, for sure, but they aren't as important as how you're feeling on the day. Assign someone you trust to take care of all the issues that may come up so that you can have a stress-free day. :-)
14. What are your wedding packages and how many hours do you shoot?
I have several different wedding packages, which varies depending on how much coverage you need on the day/days. Every wedding is different so I customize the packages based on your needs and wants.
15. Is there anything else you can help me with?
Yes, in fact there is. My husband also happens to be a very talented musician and wedding singer, so if you haven’t booked a band for your special day then let me know and I can make introductions.
